KOTA BAHARU: Only 10 per cent out of about 1,500 swiftlet breeders in Kelantan have joined the Bird Nests Traders Association in the state, said the association's president, Oii Siong Hwa.
He said independent breeders were encouraged to become members so as to reach a
united stand in developing the industry which was expanding domestically and
internationally.
"This will also enable the government to channel any form of assistance to them in ensuring the future of the industry," he said while suggesting that the association's members grab the opportunities provided by the government to
reach the RM3 billion turnover target by the year 2016.
Speaking to reporters here today, Oii also called on the authorities in the
state to standardise the licence fee imposed on the operators like in the other
states.
He said presently each operator was charged RM1,500 a year compared with the
other states collecting not even RM1,000. - Bernama
