Diantara Rbw gred super A yang berjaya

Deceased Indonesian Had Swine Flu, Not Bird flu

Officers try to catch a chicken during a poultry sweep in the Tebet area of South Jakarta in this recent photo. The city’s agriculture office is keeping an eye out for bird flu. (JG Photo/Safir Makki)The Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday that a man who
was initially thought to have died as are sult of contracting
bird flu was instead killed by complications caused by the
H1N1 virus, formerly known as swine flu.  Rohmad, 18, from
Tangerang, died on Wednesday after five days in the
isolation ward at Tangerang General Hospital.
He had been admitted last week complaining of high fever, shortness of breath and a sore throat.

“The cause of death of the
 Tangerang resident was
 because of the H1N1 virus
, not H5N1 [bird flu],” Ministry
 of Health official Trihono
 said.

There have only been a handful of fatalities attributed to H1N1 in Indonesia, and Trihono stressed that this patient had been suffering from a condition that made him more susceptible.

China reports second birds flu death

CHINA - A 39-year-old male infected with H5N1 bird flu virus died on Sunday in southern China, according to China's Ministry of Health.
This is the second victim of the disease in the past month, after the death of a bus driver in Canton province, which happened on 31 December.

The unidentified man was admitted to a hospital in the province of Guizhou, where, according to an informed regional health department, his condition deteriorated at a rapid rate.

This accounts for 28th death resulting from bird flu in China since 2003, a total of 42 human cases, reports the BBC

Researchers Explore Algae-Based Feed

Researchers Explore Algae-Based Feed

US - The pigs and poultry in

Professor Xingen Lei's lab have

been consuming feed one wouldn't

expect in Ithaca: marine algae.

The Cornell animal science professor is

testing the unlikely material as a new

 protein-rich source of feed to

supplement and replace some of the

 corn and soybean meal mix

 traditionally given to food-producing

 animals.

By doing so, he could transform a

 biofuel byproduct into a valuable

 commodity, potentially thousands of

acres of cropland, according to New

 York Ag.

"Current animal feed directly competes

against human food sources and, thus,

 is unsustainable," Professor Lei said.

 "We must develop alternatives to

 soybean and corn for animal

 feeds."

Algae produces 50 times more oil per

acre than corn, with a much smaller

 carbon footprint; uses nutrients more

efficiently than land plants, with no

runoff; and places no demand on high-

quality agricultural land or freshwater

supplies. There are an estimated 1 billio swine,

1 billion cattle, 2 billion sheep and goats and 40

 billion poultry worldwide.

The average pig consumes about 660

 pounds of feed perday  (660x1B)

by the time it goes tomarket, Professor

 Lei said, so replacing

just 10 per cent of that feed with algae

would save a whopping 33 million tons.

found that dried defatted algae derived

from biofuel production can replace up

to one-third of soybean meal in diets

for pigs and chickens. It is an

attractive source because it is high in

protein - 20-70 per cent, compared

with about 10 per cent in corn and 40

 per cent in soy

Indonesia reports second bird flu death this year

JAKARTA, January 20, 2012 (AFP) -

Indonesia on Friday reported its second

human death from bird flu this year, with

 the

death of a five-year-old girl who recently lost

her relative to the deadly virus.
Concerns about avian influenza have

risen in  the region after China in late

 December

reported its first fatality from the H5N1 virus in 18 months.
Vietnam on Thursday reported its first human death from the virus in nearly two years, as the virus also claimed the life of a toddler in Cambodia.
The latest Indonesian victim lived in the same house with a 24-year-old relative who died of the virus on January 7 but authorities say there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission between the two infected people.
"The child passed away after being treated for a few days at a hospital," Tjandra Yoga Aditama, the head of communicable diseases at Indonesia's health ministry, told AFP.
"We have conducted several tests and the results showed that she contracted the same H5N1 avian influenza virus that was detected before, so the virus has not developed," he said.
The girl had contact with poultry around their neighbourhood, he said, but could not confirm whether she had contracted the virus from chickens or pigeons -- both found in her neighbourhood of Tanjung Priok in north Jakarta.
Indonesia has been the hardest-hit by

bird flu, with 150 deaths reported between

2003 and  2011,according to the World

 Health Organization.

The test was conducted just after sun rise at about 6:30 am.
The key issue here is there are suitable land which those

birds passed by day in and day out if you know how to find them.
Once you have located this type of location your risk in
building a BH is minimum

One malaysia best label Only for malaysia bird's nest

He said that until now, still waiting for the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Chinese Ministry of Health announced the bird's nest food security for the official decision; and the Ministry of Health indicators can be issued to meet the standards of bird's nest business. He said the Ministry of Health, the two sides are still having consultations to discuss the details, including bird's nest of the nitrite content of hydrochloric acid.
On the other hand, Nuoao Ma pointed out that China and other countries there are thousands of tons of bird's nest can not be sold, so he was worried that once the bird's nest can be re-exported, will lead to a large number of products into the market, and there is no guarantee that the market before the stranded bird's nest.

Luck and faith in swiftlet farming

Some call it luck and faith but if a Bh is built without even following the basic then would luck and faith helps? I can assure you Say NO. Luck and faith only come when you have done your part, Hve you done your part which as for the Bh it must have more than the basic Skill of swiftlet farming in it from the location of the Inter-hole and entrance hole to the Bh’s design. I'm sure most of you just have the basic of swiftlet farming. YOU need more than that to succeed in this compertitive industry.

Petersime's Brochure on Embryo-Response Incubation

Petersime's Brochure on Embryo-Response Incubation

BELGIUM - Recently, world leader in incubation equipment Petersime has published a scientific brochure on embryonic development
.
The brochure describes how the three most important

environmental factors - temperature, CO2/O2 levels, and

humidity - influence embryonic development and how they

evolve during the complex process of incubation.

Furthermore, it explains how Petersime’s four Embryo-

Response Incubation™ technologies guarantee a constant

interaction between these environmental factors and the

developing embryo (CO2NTROL™ for the correct CO2levels

, OvoScan™ for temperature, DWLS™ for humidity and

Synchro-Hatch™ for a short hatch window).

The brochure contains a wealth of in-depth scientific

information, including detailed photographs and the results

of the most recent incubation trials. This makes it a

fascinating reference work for anybody closely or remotely

involved in incubation. The brochure was established in

cooperation with the biotechnology department of the

 University of Leuven.

"Petersime has always invested heavily in scientific research

, and will continue to do so in the future. Only by thoroughly

understanding every aspect of embryonic development can

we continue to optimize the process of industrial

incubation," says Hugo De Ruyck, Sales and Marketing

Manager at Petersime. "We are particularly proud of this

brochure since it explains this extremely complex biological process in a clear language, making the knowledge accessible to hatchery managers all over the world."

Lagi - lagi tentang suara burung wale!!

Salam, saya terpaksa menerangkan sekali lagi tentang suara kerana terlalu banyak pertanyaan melalui email tentang Kepentingan suara untuk memikat burung walet. Resistant Bacteria Found in Poultry Meat

Resistant Bacteria Found in Poultry Meat

GERMANY - Of 20 chicken tests done at random

in supermarkets and discount stores in Berlin,

 Hamberg, Cologne, Nuremberg and Stuttgart,

10 were positive with ESBL (Extended Spectrum

 Beta-lactamase) and methicillin-resistant

bacteria MRSA (Methicillin resistant

Staphylococcus aureus)
.
"This is the result of persistent disturbing abuse of

antibiotics," said the president of the environmental

organisation, BUND, Hubert Weiger, who criticised the use of antibiotics in animal production.

The organisation noted that the animals are subjected to prolonged treatment with a combination of different medicines.

According to Mr Weiger, in intensive poultry rearing

between 22 and 24 chickens are maintained per

square metre. And having an increasing number o
f animals in too small a space is only possible using
 large amounts of antibiotics.

Over-use of antibiotics such as cephalosporins, food

additives used in livestock and farm animals to
promote growth, accelerate the development of
 resistance to antibiotics.
The proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses

a danger to people with weak immune systems, such

as the elderly, sick, children and pregnant women. In extreme cases, an infection can even lead to death.

It is estimated that at European level there are about 25,000 infections with antibiotic-resistant bacteria a year.

Indonesia Says Bird Flu Is Under Control; EXPERT DISAGREES

Another death caused by bird flu in Indonesia
JAKARTA - The Health Ministry in Indonesia said yesterday a 24-year-old man infected with bird flu had died in the capital Jakarta, the country's third fatal case in three months.

The man likely contracted the H5N1 avian influenza virus from birds living around his house, a Health Ministry official was quoted as saying by AFP.

The authorities are currently waiting for lab results to determine if the birds around his home were infected with the virus.

Media reports said the man had died on Saturday after being rejected by a hospital that specialised in bird flu. Two other hospitals had misdiagnosed him on New Year's Eve with a gastric infection and dengue fever.

The man had died on his way to another hospital on the capital's north-eastern outskirts, reports said.

According to the World Health Organization, Indonesia has been the hardest-hit by bird flu, with 150 deaths reported between 2003 and 2011.

Antibiotic Rule - a Small Step and a Sad Indictmen

Antibiotic Rule - a Small Step and a Sad Indictment

ANALYSIS - The US Food and Drug
Administration's decision to ban 'extra-label' or
unapproved uses for certain antibiotics is small step in the direction towards reducing
the potential risk of antibiotic resistance in humans.

The order from the FDA, which comes into effect

from 5 April this year prohibits certain uses

of the cephalosporin class of antimicrobial drugs in

 cattle, swine, chickens and turkeys.

The FDA says it is taking this action to preserve the

 effectiveness of cephalosporin drugs fo

r treating disease in humans and prohibiting these

uses is intended to reduce the risk of

 cephalosporin resistance in certain bacterial

 pathogens.

The FDA stresses that antimicrobial drugs are

important for treating disease in both humans

and animals. This new order takes into consideration

 the substantial public comment FDA

received on a similar order that it issued in 2008,

 but revoked prior to implementation

However, the new order that is now in a consultation

period until 6 March only bans

cephalosporin drugs at unapproved dose levels

, frequencies, durations, or routes of

administration and it prohibits using cephalosporin

drugs in cattle, swine, chickens or turkeys

that are not approved for use in that species (e.g.,

 cephalosporin drugs intended for humans

or companion animals) and also bars the use of

 cephalosporin drugs for disease prevention.

The order does not limit the use of cephapirin, an

older cephalosporin drug that is not believed by FDA

 to contribute significantly to antimicrobial

 resistance.

Veterinarians will still be able to use or prescribe

cephalosporins for limited "extra-label" use in cattle,

swine, chickens or turkeys, provided they follow the

dose, frequency, duration, and route of

administration that is on the label.

Veterinarians may also use or prescribe

cephalosporins for "extra-label" uses in minor

species of food-producing animals such as ducks or

 rabbits.

Even Congresswoman, Louise Slaughter, who is

leading a campaign to prohibit the use of drugs that

could cause antibiotic resistance in humans,

described the FDA move at "a modest first step"

"We're really just looking at the tip of the iceberg,"

 she said.

"We don't have time for the FDA to ploddingly take

half-measures. We are staring at a massive public

health threat in the rise of antibiotic-resistant

superbugs. We need to start acting with the

swiftness and decisiveness this problem deserves."

In effect, the FDA is only telling vets what they

should already be practising - not to misuse the

drugs and only use them for what they are intended.

And perhaps the fact that the FDA has felt in

necessary to take this step is more of an indictment

on the way that these drugs have been used

 indiscriminately in the past

Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE)

Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE)

Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) is a rare disease in humans in the Murray River valley region of Australia, according to a factsheet from the New South Wales government. It is spread by mosquitoes, and while usually causing only mild symptoms in humans, a small proportion of those infected develop a severe brain infection. The infection is also found in horses, kangaroos and birds, including chickens.

Symptoms

Most MVE infections in people cause no symptoms.

Some people with MVE infections experience an illness with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, diarrhoea and muscle aches.

Rarely, the MVE virus can cause a severe brain infection known as encephalitis. The danger signs of MVE encephalitis include the following symptoms:
  • severe headache
  • neck stiffness
  • sensitivity to bright lights (photophobia)
  • drowsiness and confusion.
This can progress to cause trouble with coordination and speech, seizures, loss of consciousness, coma and even death. Some people who recover from MVE encephalitis are left with permanent neurological complications.

Spread

  • The MVE virus is spread by the common banded mosquito, Culux annulirostris. This mosquito breeds in fresh water and tends to be found in spring, summer and autumn around rivers, natural wetlands and irrigation waters and along coastal areas of NSW. The mosquito is especially common around the Murray Darling River basin areas in NSW during summer

Avian Intestinal Spirochaetosis

UK - The term avian intestinal spirochaetosis (AIS) refers to disease in chickens and sometimes other avian species

associated with the presence of Brachyspira species spirochaetes in the large intestine, according to the Animal Health

and Veterinary Laboratories Agency in their Veterinary Information Note.

Clinical Signs

In the UK the disease is mainly seen in layer chickens from approximately 20 weeks of age onwards, in which there are mild to

moderate clinical signs typically including diarrhoea (particularly slimy or slightly frothy, caramel coloured droppings), pasty

vents, faecal staining of egg shells and a drop in egg production, and the birds may appear lethargic.

Wild Birds Confirmed Positive for H5N1 Virus

HONG KONG - A spokesman for the Agriculture,
Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD)

said

today (6 January) that two dead black-headed

gulls found in Tuen Mun and Lantau were

confirmed to be H5N1 positive after a series of

laboratory tests.

The first gull was collected at EcoPark, 133 Lung Mun

Road, Tuen Mun, on 30 December, 2011,

while the second gull was found at a drain near Sha

Lo Wan Soccer Pitch, Lantau, on 1 January.

The black-headed gull is a common winter visitor.

The AFCD will continue to conduct inspections of

poultry farms to ensure that proper precautions

against avian influenza have been implemented.

The spokesman reminded people to observe good

personal hygiene.

"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds

or live poultry and clean their hand

thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said
