EBNIC organise by FKV- UPM

Expanding the production of swiftlet nests was identified as one of the 16 Entry Point Project (EPP) initiatives in Economic Transformation Program (ETP) of Malaysia. The industry is targeted to contribute RM5 billion of our agriculture exports by 2020, a fivefold increase from about RM 1 billion in 2010. The export performance in 2010 was impressive, however the development of the industry is somewhat impeded by the recent safety issues regarding edible bird nest in China. It is invisaged that for the industry to attain stable and sustainable development, efforts to enhance its competitiveness and marketing strategy must be based on the whole valus chain of the swiftlet industry.

Subsequently, Swiftlet Centre of Excellence (COE) was established. It's primary role is to ensure the competitivenes of the nation's swiftlet industry through R&D initiatives based on products value chain from production up to consumers. Currently, a number of R&D initiatives by various research agencies and universities are conducted and coordinated by the Centre.

The seminar will provide a platform for researcher and industry players to share new progress in R&D, issues, challenges and experiences related to the swiftlet industry. It is expected that this conference will attract participant and papers from researchers, goverment policy makers, enforcement agencies, swiftlet entrepreneurs and academicians. The seminar will focus on the aspects of policy framework, production, processing, trade and marketing of edible bird nest and its value added products with emphasis on enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the Malaysian swiftlet industry.
