On the other hand, Nuoao Ma pointed out that China and other countries there are thousands of tons of bird's nest can not be sold, so he was worried that once the bird's nest can be re-exported, will lead to a large number of products into the market, and there is no guarantee that the market before the stranded bird's nest.

Luck and faith in swiftlet farming
Some call it luck and faith but if a Bh is built without even following the basic then would luck and faith helps? I can assure you Say NO. Luck and faith only come when you have done your part, Hve you done your part which as for the Bh it must have more than the basic Skill of swiftlet farming in it from the location of the Inter-hole and entrance hole to the Bh’s design. I'm sure most of you just have the basic of swiftlet farming. YOU need more than that to succeed in this compertitive industry.

Malaysia Looking to Produce Poultry Vaccines
Malaysia Looking to Produce Poultry Vaccines
MALAYSIA - Malaysia is exploring opportunities to produce vaccines for the Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza poultry diseases which cause huge losses to the national livestock industry, said Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said Malaysia wants to collaborate with any research institution which could come up with the vaccines as there was a dire need for them.
Mr Muhyiddin, who was given a briefing on seven types of research related to biotechnology, agriculture and veterinary services during a visit to the University of Maryland here Monday, said Malaysia was keen to establish collaboration with institutions which had undertaken research on the Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza poultry vaccines.

Petersime's Brochure on Embryo-Response Incubation
Petersime's Brochure on Embryo-Response Incubation
BELGIUM - Recently, world leader in incubation equipment Petersime has published a scientific brochure on embryonic development
.
The brochure describes how the three most important
environmental factors - temperature, CO2/O2 levels, and
humidity - influence embryonic development and how they
evolve during the complex process of incubation.
Furthermore, it explains how Petersime’s four Embryo-
Response Incubation™ technologies guarantee a constant
interaction between these environmental factors and the
developing embryo (CO2NTROL™ for the correct CO2levels
, OvoScan™ for temperature, DWLS™ for humidity and
Synchro-Hatch™ for a short hatch window).
The brochure contains a wealth of in-depth scientific
information, including detailed photographs and the results
of the most recent incubation trials. This makes it a
fascinating reference work for anybody closely or remotely
involved in incubation. The brochure was established in
cooperation with the biotechnology department of the
University of Leuven.
"Petersime has always invested heavily in scientific research
, and will continue to do so in the future. Only by thoroughly
understanding every aspect of embryonic development can
we continue to optimize the process of industrial
incubation," says Hugo De Ruyck, Sales and Marketing
Manager at Petersime. "We are particularly proud of this
brochure since it explains this extremely complex biological process in a clear language, making the knowledge accessible to hatchery managers all over the world."

The organisation noted that the animals are subjected to prolonged treatment with a combination of different medicines.
According to Mr Weiger, in intensive poultry rearing
between 22 and 24 chickens are maintained per
square metre. And having an increasing number o
f animals in too small a space is only possible using
large amounts of antibiotics.Over-use of antibiotics such as cephalosporins, food
additives used in livestock and farm animals to
promote growth, accelerate the development of
resistance to antibiotics.
The proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria poses
a danger to people with weak immune systems, such
as the elderly, sick, children and pregnant women. In extreme cases, an infection can even lead to death.
It is estimated that at European level there are about 25,000 infections with antibiotic-resistant bacteria a year.

Indonesia Says Bird Flu Is Under Control; EXPERT DISAGREES
Another death caused by bird flu in Indonesia
04:46 AM Jan 11, 2012
JAKARTA - The Health Ministry in Indonesia said yesterday a 24-year-old man infected with bird flu had died in the capital Jakarta, the country's third fatal case in three months.
The man likely contracted the H5N1 avian influenza virus from birds living around his house, a Health Ministry official was quoted as saying by AFP.
The authorities are currently waiting for lab results to determine if the birds around his home were infected with the virus.
Media reports said the man had died on Saturday after being rejected by a hospital that specialised in bird flu. Two other hospitals had misdiagnosed him on New Year's Eve with a gastric infection and dengue fever.
The man had died on his way to another hospital on the capital's north-eastern outskirts, reports said.
According to the World Health Organization, Indonesia has been the hardest-hit by bird flu, with 150 deaths reported between 2003 and 2011.

Antibiotic Rule - a Small Step and a Sad Indictmen
Antibiotic Rule - a Small Step and a Sad Indictment
ANALYSIS - The US Food and Drug
Administration's decision to ban 'extra-label' or
unapproved uses for certain antibiotics is small step in the direction towards reducing
the potential risk of antibiotic resistance in humans.
Administration's decision to ban 'extra-label' or
unapproved uses for certain antibiotics is small step in the direction towards reducing
the potential risk of antibiotic resistance in humans.
The order from the FDA, which comes into effect
from 5 April this year prohibits certain uses
of the cephalosporin class of antimicrobial drugs in
cattle, swine, chickens and turkeys.
The FDA says it is taking this action to preserve the
effectiveness of cephalosporin drugs fo
r treating disease in humans and prohibiting these
uses is intended to reduce the risk of
cephalosporin resistance in certain bacterial
pathogens.
The FDA stresses that antimicrobial drugs are
important for treating disease in both humans
and animals. This new order takes into consideration
the substantial public comment FDA
received on a similar order that it issued in 2008,
but revoked prior to implementation
However, the new order that is now in a consultation
period until 6 March only bans
cephalosporin drugs at unapproved dose levels
, frequencies, durations, or routes of
administration and it prohibits using cephalosporin
drugs in cattle, swine, chickens or turkeys
that are not approved for use in that species (e.g.,
cephalosporin drugs intended for humans
or companion animals) and also bars the use of
cephalosporin drugs for disease prevention.
The order does not limit the use of cephapirin, an
older cephalosporin drug that is not believed by FDA
to contribute significantly to antimicrobial
resistance.
Veterinarians will still be able to use or prescribe
cephalosporins for limited "extra-label" use in cattle,
swine, chickens or turkeys, provided they follow the
dose, frequency, duration, and route of
administration that is on the label.
Veterinarians may also use or prescribe
cephalosporins for "extra-label" uses in minor
species of food-producing animals such as ducks or
rabbits.
Even Congresswoman, Louise Slaughter, who is
leading a campaign to prohibit the use of drugs that
could cause antibiotic resistance in humans,
described the FDA move at "a modest first step"
"We're really just looking at the tip of the iceberg,"
she said.
"We don't have time for the FDA to ploddingly take
half-measures. We are staring at a massive public
health threat in the rise of antibiotic-resistant
superbugs. We need to start acting with the
swiftness and decisiveness this problem deserves."
In effect, the FDA is only telling vets what they
should already be practising - not to misuse the
drugs and only use them for what they are intended.
And perhaps the fact that the FDA has felt in
necessary to take this step is more of an indictment
on the way that these drugs have been used
indiscriminately in the past

Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE)
Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE)
Murray Valley encephalitis (MVE) is a rare disease in humans in the Murray River valley region of Australia, according to a factsheet from the New South Wales government. It is spread by mosquitoes, and while usually causing only mild symptoms in humans, a small proportion of those infected develop a severe brain infection. The infection is also found in horses, kangaroos and birds, including chickens.
Symptoms
Most MVE infections in people cause no symptoms.
Some people with MVE infections experience an illness with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, diarrhoea and muscle aches.
Rarely, the MVE virus can cause a severe brain infection known as encephalitis. The danger signs of MVE encephalitis include the following symptoms:
Some people with MVE infections experience an illness with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite, diarrhoea and muscle aches.
Rarely, the MVE virus can cause a severe brain infection known as encephalitis. The danger signs of MVE encephalitis include the following symptoms:
- severe headache
- neck stiffness
- sensitivity to bright lights (photophobia)
- drowsiness and confusion.
This can progress to cause trouble with coordination and speech, seizures, loss of consciousness, coma and even death. Some people who recover from MVE encephalitis are left with permanent neurological complications.
Spread
- The MVE virus is spread by the common banded mosquito, Culux annulirostris. This mosquito breeds in fresh water and tends to be found in spring, summer and autumn around rivers, natural wetlands and irrigation waters and along coastal areas of NSW. The mosquito is especially common around the Murray Darling River basin areas in NSW during summer

Avian Intestinal Spirochaetosis
UK - The term avian intestinal spirochaetosis (AIS) refers to disease in chickens and sometimes other avian species
associated with the presence of Brachyspira species spirochaetes in the large intestine, according to the Animal Health
and Veterinary Laboratories Agency in their Veterinary Information Note.
Clinical Signs
In the UK the disease is mainly seen in layer chickens from approximately 20 weeks of age onwards, in which there are mild to
moderate clinical signs typically including diarrhoea (particularly slimy or slightly frothy, caramel coloured droppings), pasty
vents, faecal staining of egg shells and a drop in egg production, and the birds may appear lethargic.
